Forsberg named rookie tourney MVP, Ekblad all-tournament

The Predators’ first-ever preseason rookie tournament turned out to be a boon for one of their brightest young stars.

Filip Forsberg captured tournament MVP honors on Monday, and was named to the all-tournament team as selected by scouts and officials. The 20-year-old potted two goals and scored points in all three games, an impressive showing as he looks to become a full-time contributor for Nashville this season.

The tournament — which featured the Preds, Panthers, Bruins and Lightning — showcased a number of highly-talented youngsters like Forsberg, Aaron Ekblad, Jonathan Drouin, Malcolm Subban, Vincent Trochek, Andrei Vasilievsky, Adam Pastrnak, Adam Erne, Rocco Grimaldi and Kevin Fiala.

Here’s the full all-tournament team:

F: Forsberg, Nashville (MVP)

F: Pastrnak, Boston

F: Trochek, Florida

D: Ekblad, Florida

D: Chris Casto, Boston

G: Sam Brittain, Florida

The Panthers captured the tournament title by going a perfect 3-0 thanks in large part to the defensive work done by Ekblad and Brittain, who stopped 55 of 57 shots over the course of three games.
